For an additional two years, Gary Stead will serve as New Zealand’s all-format coach

Gary Stead will continue to coach the All-Stars for a further two years in all three forms after New Zealand Cricket rejected any effort to use separate coaches in different formats.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-69305″ src=”” alt=”” width=”905″ height=”507″ srcset=” 300w,×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 905px) 100vw, 905px” />

According to Bryan Stronach, general manager of high performance at NZC, a split coaching strategy was examined and rejected, but there was still opportunity to hire more coaching professionals as required.

Stead, who was employed for the first time in 2018, had his second contract renewal granted in 2018. His current contract was due to expire after the 2018 Cricket World Cup in India. He will keep competing until the end of the current World Test Championship cycle in 2025.

“The support for Gary was overwhelmingly positive from the players, the Black Caps support staff, major association coaches and support staff, as well as the New Zealand Cricket Players Association and NZC High Performance Unit staff,” said Stronach.

“Gary’s performance has been really outstanding, and we believe he still has much to contribute to the club. Naturally, a significant factor in this choice was whether Gary wanted to stay, and it was evident from his comments that he was as eager as ever to lead this squad forward. Stead has guided New Zealand to the finals of the 50-over and Twenty20 World Cups, as well as the maiden World Test Championship victory.

Tim Southee, the captain of New Zealand, said that the team were keen for Stead to continue.

In all three forms, “Gary’s had great success leading us into finals and, of course, that World Test Championship win,” Southee added. He has done a terrific job of building on what has already been accomplished.
